My first record of an Orange Tip this year was on the 29th April which is quite late. However numbers have now increased and I now expect to see this species almost every day while out and about and in my garden too. The individual pictured below was encountered yesterday along with several others and all it seems were males.
I am surprised they were so late with you Peter. The first one recorded here was on 1st April. I am so pleased to see so many Orange Tips around, as the weather last spring was so wet and many of the caterpillars I had been keeping an eye on disappeared. I only found one chrysalis, too, so I was fearing that their numbers would be very low. Of course this year, with it being so dry, I wonder if their food plants will dry up! Always something to worry about!!
ReplyDeleteYes Nick I think I was just unlucky as in Hampshire the first OT was reported on the 31st March.Cheers for now,Peter.
